Mr. Anderson has twenty five plus years of proven business, government, management and leadership experience. Past positions include: Chairman and Commissioner of a federal regulatory agency; senior executive of a multi-billion dollar company; President of a diversified oil transportation company; Chairman of one of the nation's largest community colleges; Chairman of one of Florida's leading economic development agencies; executive with an international maritime transportation company; and senior leadership positions in state and national trade associations and non-profit organizations
He is a dynamic and highly respected leader with a proven business and government background with extensive business and government and political relationships. His leadership experience includes executive management, marketing, public affairs and government and community relations. He has demonstrated success in building alliances, coalitions, and working with business and government leaders.
Today, he is leading a fast growing maritime shipping company, specializing in the trading, processing and transportation of ethanol, based in Boca Raton, Florida with operations in the US Atlantic and Gulf coasts, the Caribbean, and South America.
He recently left the Administration of President George W. Bush where he was designated Chairman for the Federal Maritime Commission, an independent federal regulatory agency. He was nominated by the President in April of 2003 and unanimously confirmed by the United States Senate in May 2004. He was re-nominated by the President for another five year term on August 2007. Most notably, Commissioner Anderson served on the Committee on the Marine Transportation System, a cabinet level partnership of Federal agencies with responsibility for the United States' Marine Transportation System (MTS) - waterways, ports and their intermodal connections - to ensure the development and implementation of national MTS policies consistent with national needs and report to the President its views and recommendations for improving the MTS.
Prior to his public service, he served 10 years as Vice President of Government Relations and Public Affairs for JM family Enterprises, LLC, one of the largest privately held corporations in America. JM is a recognized leader in the automotive industry, and a highly diversified automotive company, with insurance, lease finance and financial services, warranty, automobile dealerships and the largest distributor of Toyotas in the world. Earlier in his career he served in the United States Senate working for United States Senator Paul Hawkins.
Paul was appointed in 1999 by Governor Jeb Bush to lead Broward Community College (today Broward College) and served as Chairman and Vice Chairman of the Board of Trustees. He served two terms as Chairman of the Broward Alliance, the second largest county economic development agency in the state of Florida. He Chaired the Academy Appointments Advisor Board for 12 years for US Senator Connie Mack. He is also the Co-Founder of Broward Navy Days, a military support organization which today hosts the second largest fleet week in the country and will celebrate its 20th year anniversary in 2009.
Mr. Anderson has been a leader in many business organizations and associations including being on the national Board of Directors of the Public Affairs Association, the internationally recognized leading professional association for public affairs professionals. He served for almost a decade on the Board of Governors of the Florida Chamber, Board of Directors of Florida Tax Watch, Board of Directors of the American Waterways Operators and the Board of Trustees of the Fort Lauderdale Chamber of Commerce. He has been a guest lecturer at the University of Florida Masters Program in Political Campaigning.
He also has focused on support for charitable organizations including the Board of Take Stock in Children, the nation's largest mentoring/scholarship program, Junior Achievement of South Florida and the Museum of Discovery and Science in Fort Lauderdale. He also Co-Chaired for eight years the Jeb Bush Classic, a premier golf and fishing tourney which fundraises over $1 million each year benefiting Cystic Fibrosis.
Upon returning to South Florida from Washington, DC, Mr. Anderson continues his service to his community by being on the Orange Bowl Committee, the Board of Directors of Winterfest and beginning a term on the Board of Directors of Leukemia Lymphoma Society. He is the proud husband of Sarah Anderson and father to one year old Jordan. Sarah is Varsity coach of girl's lacrosse coach at St. Thomas High School.
Mr. Anderson is an alumnus of the University of Florida and Harvard's John F. Kennedy School of Government.
